For Eric Clapton’s ‘Forever’, Gaia Alari created a hand-drawn animation following a hunter chasing a butterfly through an enchanted, ever-changing forest. Made from more than 1,500 individually drawn and coloured frames, the film mirrors its protagonist’s endless pursuit through a painstakingly analogue process. Using a straight-ahead animation technique, Gaia allows one image to transform instinctively into the next, creating unexpected transitions and a warm, imperfect texture that gives the film the feeling of a strange, timeless folk tale.
