Alison Goldfrapp

Overview

A collaboration between visual artist Mat Maitland and Alison Goldfrapp. Mat oversaw all visual aspects of her newly launched solo career including film, photography, image-making and design. The centrepiece of the project is four motion pieces that combine traditional film techniques with AI and serve as a meditation on the transformative nature of identity and fabrications of the physical self.

The series of 60-second AI-manipulated video vignettes illustrate the visual story of the album. Alison was filmed against rendered LED backdrops that reflect the themes covered across the album – nature, artifice and a surrender to the surreal.  Next, the footage was treated with a range of AI techniques to create extreme fluctuations on a spectrum that glides towards radical fantasy. The result is a mythical world that is both powerful and fragile.
